Is there any trick to getting the progression of colors to blend so smoothly? Or is it mostly guesswork?

It mostly has to do with just practicing and knowing what tools and brands work best for you. I find certain brands of makeup don't blend as nice for me, and also certain brushes blend the colors better then other. So I guess it's just kind of trial and error as to what you find works best for you :-)
